JG Summit Petrochemicals Group (JGSPG) once again demonstrated its beneficial presence in the communities where it operates with its participation in the annual Brigada Eskwela.
On May 20 and 21, 2019, JGSPG organized a crew of 150 volunteers composed of its employees, its various contractors, school teachers, and other members of the barangay communities to take part in the flagship program of the Department of Education (DepEd), which aims to bring together all stakeholders to participate and contribute their time, efforts and resources to prepare public schools facilities for the opening of the school year. JGSPG has been actively joining the program since 2015.
The event saw the volunteers teaming up to clean and repair the three public elementary schools in Barangays Simlong, Pinamucan Ibaba, and Pinamucan Proper. The activity involved repainting of walls, corridors, and ceilings, and the clean-up of classrooms and school grounds, among others. Volunteers during the activity also enjoyed URC snacks and beverages, provided by JGSPG.
Education is one of the focus areas of JGSPG’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts. The company believes that aiding in the education of the youth is one way of expressing its concern as a good corporate neighbor.
JGSPG Community Relations Officer Arnel Paclibon said, “When classrooms and schools are clean, it becomes a better place for students to learn. These are requisites to good learning which JGSPG supports.”
JGSPG also participates in the DepEd’s Balik Eskwela program by way of donations of school supplies for the daycare up to Grade 6 students of the three barangays.
Through Brigada Eskwela and Balik Eskwela, JGSPG hopes more students in the community will be motivated to go to school and finish their studies to help ensure a better future for them and their families.
